My interest in sign language began about 10 years ago when I started American Sign Language (ASL) training at Chinook College. I have always held an interest in the study of languages which is what drew me to American Sign Language. I have a real passion for learning so I am always enrolling in one class or another. Knowing ASL has also been a real benefit to me as a mother and as an ESL (English as a Second Language) Instructor. Having witnessed the success of using signs and gestures in teaching, I began studying the use of sign language with babies and toddlers. While ASL is based in North America, some of the signs have universal meaning and this has been real advantage in communicating with both my students and my daughter.

In addition to my interest in sign language, I have several years of experience as an educator. As an ESL instructor I have had a great deal of experience in working with diverse groups of people with unique and individual needs. I have taught kindergarten and elementary students as well as adults in both South Korea and Canada. I completed a Bachelor of Arts degree from Athabasca University and a Professional TESOL (Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages) certificate from Global TESOL College. I have also earned certificates for ASL level 1 and 2.  My enthusiasm for teaching, education, sign language, and a love for children, led me to become a My Smart Hands
™ instructor.
